Selling online in the UAE: what a mobile app has to get right

Where we are

Shopify mobile app development in Dubai, for stores selling in the UAE.

TicApp is a Shopify mobile app company in Dubai. Every app we have
shipped was built for a retailer selling here, which is the only reason
this page exists — a location page written by somebody who has never sold
in a market is worth nothing to the people in it.

What is actually different about selling here

Four things, and each of them changes how the app is built rather than
how it is described.

Delivery sets the standard

Same-day is normal in Dubai, so a week reads as broken rather than
slow. The delivery date belongs on the product screen, before
checkout — a store that reveals it afterwards loses people who had
already decided.

Two languages, one app

A meaningful share of the audience is comfortable in English and a
meaningful share is not. Arabic is not a translation pass: right-to-
left changes layout, iconography, back arrows, carousels and reading
order, while numbers and Latin brand names stay left-to-right inside
it.

Wallet payment dominates

Apple Pay in particular is used heavily here, and it removes the step
— typing card details on a phone — where most mobile checkouts are
lost. Cash on delivery is smaller than it was and has not vanished,
especially for first-time buyers.

A phone-first market, and not by a small margin

Most stores here take three quarters of their traffic on a phone, and
the standard a customer compares you against is not another store. It
is the food delivery app and the ride-hailing app they use daily —
both of which remember them, hold their address, and take one tap.

That is why a mobile site that merely functions is no longer
competitive in the UAE, and it is most of the argument for a Shopify
mobile app in Dubai rather than another round of theme work.

The commercial calendar is not the European one

Ramadan is the largest period for many categories, and buying shifts
as well as rising — late evening becomes the peak browsing window.
White Friday matters and sits alongside Ramadan and Eid rather than
dominating the year.

A campaign calendar imported from Europe misses the biggest
opportunity of the local one, and an app that cannot send a
notification at 11pm during Ramadan is missing the hour that counts.

Apps we built for UAE retailers

Install any of them before you speak to us. A Shopify mobile app agency
in Dubai should be judged on what is downloadable rather than on what is
claimed.

Eleganza La Mode

Fashion, with live shopping in Arabic and English.

Pets Lounge

Pet care, with barcode reordering built into search.

The Discount Locker

Offer-led retail. Four years live and still shipping updates.

Working with a studio in the same city

Same hours

Gulf Standard Time, so a question asked in the morning is answered in
the morning. Unglamorous and it is the difference between a two-day
decision and a two-week one.

We can come to you

For the first conversation and for a launch, if that is useful. Most
of the work happens over a call either way.

Prices in dirhams

Quoted in AED against a UAE-registered business, so there is no
currency conversion, no cross-border payment, and no argument about
which VAT applies.

Questions from merchants here

Do we need Arabic in the app?

For a meaningful share of the UAE market, yes — and it is a build decision rather than a translation. Right-to-left changes the layout, the icons and the reading order, and an app that flips only the text reads as machine-translated, which costs more trust than staying in English would have.

Do you only work with stores in Dubai?

We are in Dubai and most of our work is UAE retailers, but the Gulf is one market in practice and we work across it. Ask, and we will say plainly whether we are the right studio for where you sell.

Is cash on delivery still needed in the UAE?

Less than it was and not gone. Card and wallet payment dominate here, and cash on delivery remains meaningful for first-time buyers. Many stores offer it above a trust threshold rather than universally.

How does Ramadan change the app?

Mostly in when people browse — late evening becomes the peak — and in which categories move. What the app needs is the ability to send a notification at the hour that matters and a home screen you can rearrange for a season without a developer.

Whatever you searched for to arrive here — a Shopify mobile app
builder in Dubai, ecommerce app development in the UAE, Shopify ecommerce
mobile app solutions, mobile ecommerce in Dubai — it is the same
question underneath: is there somebody here who has done this for a store
like mine. There is, the apps are downloadable, and the first call is
twenty minutes.

A call, in your hours, about your store.

Tell us what you sell in the UAE and how often people buy again, and we will tell you whether an app is worth it yet.
